VK STYLE
VK style comes from Visual Kei.
It is a hairstyle connected to the fashion and music culture around Japanese Visual Kei bands.
One of the main characteristics is the shape around the jaw.
Usually, there is a stronger line somewhere around the jaw, slightly above it, or slightly below it.
That part can almost feel like a bob.
Then underneath, the nape stays much longer.
So visually, it can feel somewhere between a jellyfish cut and a wolf cut.
Sometimes it feels closer to a jellyfish cut.
Sometimes it feels closer to a hush cut or wolf cut.
But the important point is that the layers are not always connected naturally from the top all the way down.
There is usually a stronger difference between the upper shape and the longer hair underneath.
That is what gives VK hair its character.
THE SEPARATION
The upper part can look almost like a bob or a short shag.
Then the nape drops down much longer.
That separation is important.
EXTENSIONS
You can also create this style with extensions.
For example, someone may already have a bob, shag, bixie or shorter layered haircut.
Then we can add length only around the nape.
That immediately changes the shape.
VK style is actually one of the hairstyles where extensions can become part of the design, not just something used to make the hair longer.
You can add straight extensions.You can add braided pieces.You can add dreadlock-style pieces.You can use them almost like accessories.
That works very naturally with this kind of haircut.
TEXTURE
Texture is also very important.
At our salon, we do not try to finish texture quickly.
We work slice by slice.
People who have had their hair cut with us probably understand what I mean.
The stylist really works through the hair.
Small section by small section.
We do not want to take a shortcut and just remove weight everywhere.
We look at each part and decide what that section needs.
THE WEIGHT POINT
With VK hair, balance is especially important.
The weight point can completely change the style.
If the weight sits lower, it can feel heavier and closer to a jellyfish shape.
If the upper layers are lighter and more connected, it can move closer to a wolf or shag feeling.
Even a small change can make the haircut look very different.
THE BALANCE
So there is no one fixed VK shape.
You have to decide how strong you want the upper shape to be.
How much separation you want between the top and the nape.
How much you want it to feel like a jellyfish cut.
And how much you want it to feel like a wolf cut.
That balance should be adjusted with the stylist.
It really depends on the person, the hair, and how strong you want the design to feel.
VK style is not a quiet haircut. That is part of the point.
It is a style where you can play with shape, texture, extensions and color much more freely. And that is what makes it interesting.
